2 DPO: What to Expect at Two Days Past Ovulation?

Highlights
  • 2 DPO marks the beginning of a two-week wait, during which women likely experience anxiety and worry.
  • After ovulation, a released egg travels down the fallopian tube and is either reabsorbed or fertilized.
  • Pregnancy symptoms at 2 DPO may include tiredness, nausea, breast tenderness, bloating and hunger for particular foods as well as mood swings and lower back/pelvic pain.
  • Cramping is not always a sign of pregnancy; it might also be part of the luteal phase.
  • Testing too early can lead to inaccurate results; the best bet is to wait one week after ovulation before testing.

What should you expect at 2 DPO?

At 2 DPO, you are very likely to feel completely normal, as if it was any other day of your cycle, aside from anxiety and worry that might accompany the two week wait.

However, at 2 DPO, your body is going through many changes on the inside, and your hormone levels are changing as well.

What happens two days after ovulation?

After the ovulation day, the egg is released, and it starts moving down the fallopian tube on its way to your uterus. For healthy women that ovulate, this process happens every month.

Understand your body and live in sync with your cycle.

If you are not trying to get pregnant, the released egg will probably be reabsorbed into your body because it does not get fertilized by the sperm.

However, if you are trying to conceive, and the sperm is present in your body, one sperm cell might succeed to get in, and that is how we get a fertilized egg.

The result of this process is what we call a zygote, which is a fertilized egg. At 2 DPO, the fertilized egg will continue to travel towards the uterus, with its cells dividing about every fifteen hours.

Once it gets there, the egg will implant sometime between 6 and 10 DPO, which is how we get successful implantation and pregnancy and many changes in hormone levels that will follow once the body starts to recognize exactly what is going on and starts getting the uterus ready.

Can you have symptoms at 2 DPO?

The experience is going to differ from woman to woman and from conception to conception; there is no rule book. Some women do experience some pregnancy symptoms in the early stages of the two week wait, while most women forgo all the symptoms.

If you do experience symptoms at 2 DPO, they are most likely to include:

  • Tiredness and fatigue
  • Feeling nauseous
  • Breast pain, tenderness, and nipple tenderness
  • Bloating and increased hunger for certain foods
  • Mood swings
  • Pelvic pain and lower backache
  • Muscle aches

All of the above-mentioned symptoms are considered to be symptoms of early pregnancy, and they might signalize that you are indeed pregnant at 2 DPO. However, they are also signs that you are in the normal luteal phase of your cycle when your progesterone levels rise to thicken your uterus lining.

You experience these symptoms every month, but it is likely that you are noticing them more now because you are actually trying to conceive, and you are paying more attention to your body than ever before.

There is no way to say what is causing your symptoms and hormonal changes this early in your two week wait, early pregnancy, or just your normal menstrual cycle.

However, tracking the symptoms that you are experiencing can only be beneficial for both your sanity through this stressful period and your gyno and your fertility journey.

Cramping at 2DPO

If you are actively trying to conceive and get pregnant, you are probably hyper-aware of any pregnancy symptoms, stomach cramps included. Two days past ovulation, normal period cramps are not an indication of anything (it does not mean pregnancy or no pregnancy), and it does not have to mean anything bad necessarily.

However, if the fertilization is successful, you might experience implantation cramps about a week from 2DPO.

You might also experience implantation bleeding, which is slight bleeding that happens when implantation is successful. These cramps, implantation bleeding, other pregnancy symptoms, and hormonal changes, appear as the fertilization has been successfully implanted in your uterine wall.

Make sure not to take a pregnancy test before your two week wait is up, no matter how tempting it is.

Can you have early pregnancy symptoms two days after ovulation?

Unfortunately, not enough is known at 2DPO, and you will have to wait a bit longer to notice any sort of classic symptoms or to be able to take a test that can determine your pregnancy. How long? Count that it is going to be at least another week.

You are not going to experience any pregnancy symptoms until after implantation. Before the implantation actually happens, your body does not know whether it is pregnant or not, and it is not producing pregnancy hormones that cause the symptoms that we all know as classic pregnancy symptoms that many women experience.

These common symptoms often include nausea, changes to your breasts, and fatigue. The implantation is the actual trigger that causes the body to produce extra hormones, causing all of the symptoms mentioned above.

Many other women who have experienced pregnancy say that they were suspicious long before they experience any early pregnancy symptoms or took the home pregnancy test and know for sure whether they are pregnant or not. However, as every woman (and even every pregnancy) is different, the subjective feeling is nowhere near a scientific method of telling if you are pregnant or not.

Everything is still up in the air at 2DPO, and your best bet is tracking your symptoms, relaxing, and waiting for the two week wait to end so that you can take a pregnancy test and know for sure, good luck and fingers crossed. We are hoping for good news and a new life!
